Your first eurythmy exercises have taught you grace, harmony and consciousness. Rod exercises take you the next step by awakening skill and precision.

As a movement meditation, eurythmy supports the way that your spirit and soul live in your body. The first eurythmy exercises have opened up for you the tools to awaken this sense of yourself as the conscious spirit in your life, and learn how to move in harmony with spirit laws.

To further develop your practice, the next step in the eurythmy curriculum will be a series of practices done with copper rods. Rod exercises are introduced in the eurythmy curriculum from the very first lessons. Your rod work will help you develop a very awake sense of space and movement, and develop your agility in your hands, fingers and whole-body movement.

Eurythmy Rod Exercises may be taken alone, or can serve as a second fundamental stepping stone in developing your own Personal Eurythmy Practice.

  1. Pre Lesson: How to create your own eurythmy practice
  2. Copper Rod Exercises:: The basics
  3. The Seven-fold Rod exercise: training for precision
  4. The Twelvefold rod exercise: : deepening your breathing

The next step in your eurythmy practice will teach you how to increase your awareness of the space you move through and how to move geometric forms. As eurythmists, we express our art in the way we move through space according to the dynamics of the etheric world.

The next step in your eurythmy practice will teach you how to increase your awareness of the space you move through and how to move geometric forms. As eurythmists, we express our art in the way we move through space according to the dynamics of the etheric world. *Learn more We learn to listen to the way that each line of poetry and thoughts and even sounds themselves live in space. Some may call for movement in straight lines or curves; others may be jagged or smooth, in-winding or out-streaming. The eurythmist develops a sensitive awareness for how each piece itself needs unfolds in space and time according to artistic lawfulness. We practice diligently how to move according to real etheric lawfulness.

We have laid the foundation for this by learning how to stand and walk, and coordinate these with arm movements in Eurythmy Warmups. We have further developed a sure feeling for how to feel space with the Eurythmy Rod Exercises. Now we will begin sculpting space with a conscious study of how to move straight line, curves, circles, waves, lemniscates and more. These will lay the foundations for later being able to move eurythmy forms with grace and confidence, and for getting to know the movement qualities of the vowels and consonants and how they live as spatial forms.

The Spatial Exercises module may be taken alone, or can serve as a second fundamental stepping stone in developing your own Personal Eurythmy Practice. It will be most fruitful, however, if taken after both Eurythmy Warmups and Eurythmy Rod Exercises.

  1. Pre Lesson: How to create your own eurythmy practice
  2. Introduction: How to occupy space
  3. Moving straight lines in all directions: Opening to space in all directions
  4. Moving Geometric Forms: Triangles and Six-pointed Stars
  5. Moving the Pentagram: The Sacred Human Form
  6. Moving Curves and Circles: Bending Space
  7. Moving Waves: Becoming fluid in the whole body
  8. Moving Lemniscates: The Sign of Infinity
  9. Moving Spirals: The Journey to the Center
  10. Moving straight lines and curves in combination: Challenges in Mindful Movement
  11. Practice Sequence 3 and Partner Exercises: Putting it all together

Vowels are truly the language of the soul, and each of the vowels expresses one of the pure, archetypal human feelings. An exploration of the vowels can open up a whole treasure box of experiences for us. *Learn more For many people, the feeling life is turbulent: for others it is flattened and dull. When we learn to feel deeply the power of each of the different vowels, it is as if we meet the blessing fairy godmothers whom we heard about in children’s stories, each of which gave one gift to the small child.

Each of the vowels has a special correspondence to one of the planets. The fairy godmothers are also the gods or goddesses of the planets who have given to the human being mythological soul archetypes. Essentially, they tell the great story of humanity, who has evolved from innocence through pain to self-conscious individuation, rising to love, from which the fruits of our biography can be offered back to our Creator, on a dearer and higher level.

Visible Speech may be taken alone, or can serve as a second fundamental stepping stone in developing your own Personal Eurythmy Practice. It is recommended, however, that students complete the first three modules before moving on to Visible Speech. Sign up for all courses in the Full Curriculum Series.

When we speak the consonants, we mold our exhaled air by the manifold miniature muscles and structures of the palate, tongue, teeth and lips, shaping them with explosive, liquid, round or sibilant gesture. We use these sparkling sounds to describe mountains and rivers and stars, to all the things of nature and all the things we have made.

Each of the 12 signs of the zodiac is home to one or more of the primary consonants. The sculptural forces that we find in the consonants have likewise formed the shape of our body, the temple for our spirit. The same will and wisdom and movement found in the universe around us live within us as well.

We begin our study of the consonants by looking at them in a sequence known as the Evolution Sequence. Through this arrangement of the consonants, we can imagine a story that begins with the beginning of a person’s life and unfolds until his or her death. The first twelve lessons will thus unfold a consonant pilgrimage for you. At the end of each consonant essay, you will find a form to practice the sequence as it develops, adding one sound with each lesson so that by the 12th lesson you have a form for the journey from B to T.
