Eurythmy as a Spiritual Practice: What is it Really?
Why Eurythmy? What do you develop through your eurythmy practice?
Join us for our first Studies in Anthroposophy series with a study of how eurythmy began in 1912 as a kind of rebirth of sacred temple dance. From those somewhat simple beginnings it grew to become a profound immersion into the living thoughts of Anthroposophy. In eurythmy, every single gesture engages us in our Physical, Etheric, Astral and Ego sheathes. We learn to pour our awareness out of mere cognition into our hearts and into our will, so that the body becomes a true vessel for and an expression of the Cosmic Creative Word.
The effect of all of this is re-connect us to our spiritual sources in the macrocosmos, bringing them as health-bringing forces into our bodies. Those who practice eurythmy daily can experience its powerful integrative power, as body, soul and spirit awaken to in harmony with one another.
The practice of eurythmy is the most powerful tool I know to counter the seductive effects of materialism and technology. Even 5-15 minutes (or longer!) of eurythmy DAILY gives you a somatic reminder of what life is really about: living FULLY on the earth with an awakened and active spiritual consciousness.
